Let's have lunch in the Hayloft...

Last Sunday we enjoyed a wonderful lunch with friends in our hayloft!  The weather was perfect, the food was tasty and the company was great!  Best way to spend a Sunday afternoon in Autumn.

How this all started was, after 30 years we have purchased a new dining room table.  Of course, the old table was sent to the hayloft.....and that was when I thought it would be fun to have lunch in the hayloft.

Vacuming up the cobwebs, sweeping the floor and hauling a whole lot of stuff to set the mood was done to get it all ready.   So, come along and see what I came up with.

Favorite thing about these pictures is the grains and tones in the wood...

The menu was simple,,,homemade soup, salad and cheese n crackers
with apple crisp for dessert.

Just a few fall leaves left on the trees

I'd have to say I would eat in the barn any day!!

Apple Crisp an Autumn Favorite

We had a wonderful lunch served in the {HAYLOFT} this past Sunday!  It was the perfect place to enjoy some homemade soup, salad, cheese n crackers , apple crisp and wonderful conversation.

Stay tuned for how the hayloft has become another favorite place to entertain!

I have been using the same apple crisp recipe for years.  It was a favorite when we operated That Country Place Tea Room.  Crisp Macintosh apples, crunchy oatmeal with brown sugar,  and vanilla ice cream with a sprinkle of cinnamon makes for an easy delicious autumn favorite.

~Recipe for Apple Crisp~

Mix the following together and place in a 9x13 pan

6 chopped apples
1/2 cup white sugar
1 tbsp flour
Sprinkle of cinnamon

Topping:

1 cup oatmeal
1/2 cup margarine
3/4 cup flour
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda

Using a pastry blender, mix the topping ingredients until crumbly
Place on top of the apples and sprinkle with cinnamon

Bake at 350 degrees until top is golden brown and the apples are cooked

Enjoy with ice cream or whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon

Autumn in the Room without a Roof

Good Morning,,,thought I would finish up the post about my "autumn photo shoot " in the room without a roof.  You can click here to see how this room came about.  Enjoy the tour !

I moved items from the house outside to get some decor shots.
Leaf carpet is from Mother Nature Home Decor!

I think I may look for a clock to stay out here in the summer ..
May have to water proof it somehow though.

Lovin our Room without a Roof

We have a favorite spot in our yard, nestled in a back row of trees.   Over the past 4 summers our property has gone through  alot of clean up and changes as we make it our own.  We knew right from the start that cleaning out the over grown shelter belt would be a spot for our fireplace area.

It took a couple of summers, but this year we finished up the fireplace, pergola and pathway.  Darrell also got a harvest table built so that we can have meals outside under the tall trees.  A hammock in the shade has been another favorite spot!

Our second summer we made do with the fireplace sitting on cinder blocks

Here is the man with the plan!
Its all right there on one piece of paper...

Yep...thats the blueprint!!

Taking shape

Getting the stone work in place.

Before n After

It was given a name this summer as we had friends over and the little girls asked to move the coffee table and dance to the song "Happy"by Pharrell Williams...there is a part of the song that says " clap along if you feel like a room without a roof"!  and that is how our fireplace area got its name!!  We had lots of fires and smores, and dancing , and playing "Go Fish" and just enjoying beautiful summer evenings with friends, neighbors and family!  Summers on the prairies definately have their perks!

Here is a sneak peek at how I decorated the room without a roof with some fall fun!

Fall Decor and Happy Thanksgiving from the country

We enjoyed a house full of friends and family yesterday and now the turkey soup is simmering on the stove!  It has been awhile since I last posted!  Yikes....I wish I was more consistent at doing this blogging!  I guess I use it more as a diary and a photo journal...and I get some ideas to blog about and they just seem to stay in my brain and never make it to be a blog post!

So.... before the fall season is gone, I thought I would post this years fall decor that I enjoyed putting up around the house.  I really like the neutral tone of white pumpkins and you will see they were the focal point of my decorating.  As well, I found a pair of gold lamps at Value Village (5.99 each), bought the shades at Walmart,  and they helped to fill in the mantel.

OH...is there anyone out there with tips on how to make my header size fill up more of the banner!?  Thats the problem with not doing this often,,,you forget all the techie stuff!!

Happy Thanksgiving to my Canadian blogging friends!  Enjoy the long week end!!

A bit of mother nature and her fall colors.

Happy Thanksgiving!
